Marriage Green Card Fee FAQs
What is the total filing fee for a marriage green card in 2026?
If you file I-130 online and I-485 with biometrics, the base fee is $2,115. If you add the I-765 (work permit) and I-131 (travel document), the total is $3,005 under the current USCIS fee schedule.
Is the I-765 work permit still free when filed with I-485?
No. USCIS ended the free bundling of I-765 and I-131 with adjustment of status applications in 2024. You must now pay for these forms separately.
Do I get a discount for filing the I-765 with my I-485?
Yes. The standard fee for Form I-765 is $520, but if you file it concurrently with a pending I-485, the fee is discounted to $260.
Is there a discount for the I-131 Advance Parole?
No. Unlike the I-765, there is no discount for filing the I-131 travel document with your I-485. The fee is a flat $630.
Is it cheaper to file Form I-130 online or on paper?
Filing Form I-130 online costs $675. Filing it by mail (paper) costs $675 plus a $50 paper filing surcharge, bringing the total to $725.
Are biometrics fees included in the I-485 fee?
Yes. The $1,440 fee for Form I-485 now includes the cost of biometrics (fingerprinting and background checks). There is no longer a separate $85 fee.
Can I pay USCIS fees with a credit card?
Yes, you can pay online filings with a credit card, or use Form G-1450 to pay by credit card for paper applications filed at a USCIS lockbox.
What happens if my I-485 is denied? Do I get a refund?
No. USCIS filing fees are generally non-refundable, regardless of whether your application is approved, denied, or withdrawn.
Are there any hidden fees for a marriage green card?
In addition to USCIS filing fees, you must pay for a mandatory immigration medical exam (Form I-693), which is paid directly to a civil surgeon and typically costs $200-$500.
Can I request a fee waiver for the marriage green card process?
Yes, you can file Form I-912 (Request for Fee Waiver) for the I-485, but only if you can demonstrate severe financial hardship. Fee waivers are strictly scrutinized.
